Race Recap

Click here for a pdf chart and running line. Mr. Fantasy broke awkwardly and then was hustled up between horses. He stalked the leader Go Go Shoot down the backstretch though a quarter in 22.21. Around the turn, Eddie Castro urged him to the lead and he responded. He led through a half in 44.24. Mr. Fantasy switched leads and had a clear lead in the lane before tiring and being passed by Congressional Page. He was beat ¾ of a length. The final time for the race was 1:09.55.
Mike Hushion said, “He still got pretty worked up in the paddock and was not completely focused in the gate. It is a shame he broke poorly because he was forced to rush up instead of relaxing. We may have won if he broke sharply. Eddie might have moved a bit early, but he got pretty tired in the stretch. He ran hard though. The winner was flying."Eddie Castro said, “My horse had his head cocked sideways when the gates opened and then he stumbled. He showed good speed but I had to rush him up between horses. He was moving very well and then just got tired.”
Mr. Fantasy earned a 99 Beyer in the race. He cooled out fine afterwards. He did have a cut on his leg where he nicked himself after stumbling at the start, but it was superficial. We'll likely just be a couple extra days before going back to the track. We will regroup and see how he comes out of the race before making a plan moving forward. We want to do everything we can to give Mr. Fantasy a chance to be successful, and we'll explore all possibilities.
