Six Zeroes at Highcliff Farms Jan 30th 2010

Updates on Recent workouts

"The Defense Rests breezed a quick half-mile in 48.05 at Belmont. Mike Hushion had not asked him for much speed, so he had the rider turn him loose a little bit this morning and he responded in a big way. He answered the call nicely and has gotten back onto a regular breeze schedule. If all goes well The Defense Rests should debut in March."
"Mr. Fantasy fired a bullet three furlongs in 36.60 at Palm Meadows. The work was visually impressive. Terry and Tom were there for the work, and Terry commented how Mr. Fantasy looked like he did when he was whipping horses last winter in New York. Mr. Fantasy was not blowing as hard after this breeze and appears to be getting fitter. He is looking less thick each day. Terry had not seen Mr. Fantasy in full training since last summer, and he noted that Mr. Fantasy looks like he has made the progression from age 3 to age 4 beautifully."

Weekend News from workouts

"Mr. Fantasy returned to the worktab for the first time going an easy three furlongs in 39 flat on Saturday at Palm Meadows. He went by himself, and it was designed to be an easy breeze. He looked good and came back well from the work. We will be on a regular breeze schedule."
"Phosphorescent breezed a solid five furlongs in 1:01.80 at the Fair Grounds. Dale Roman's assistant Tom Morgan said that this was his best move since coming back to the track. Phosphorescent did not get tired for the first time and finished with good energy. Dale was going to look at the condition book. We are about ready to begin looking for a race."
"The Defense Rests returned to the worktab going a solid half-mile in 50 flat on Saturday at Belmont. Mike Hushion had to play it by ear when we'd get back on a regular breeze schedule, but we caught a bit of a break with the weather. It was a nice solid first breeze back, and we should be back on a weekly schedule. If all goes well he should debut by the end of February or early March."

From countdown to the crown

Last year I drank the Kool-Aid for New York winter wonder Mr. Fantasy. He turned out to be a nice stakes horse, but nothing to worry about for the Triple Crown. Until proven otherwise, last week's hot-shot Aqueduct dominator EIGHTYFIVEINAFIFTY isn't about to stain my lips red just yet.

Updates

"Mr. Fantasy rolled a quarter-mile through the lane on Sunday. Quarter-miles are not recorded, but Tom Bellhouse and Jeff Lifson were there to see the work. Mike Hushion wanted something around 28, and he got him in 28 and change under heavy restraint. It was a perfect first work back."
"Phosphorescent breezed a good five furlongs in 1:03.60 on Thursday at the Fair Grounds. The work was 34th of 74 at the distance. Dale's assistant, Tom Morgan said that Phosphorescent got a little tired in the last sixteenth of a mile. However, he did come out of work well physically. Tom felt we would need two more works then should be able to begin looking for a race."
"The Defense Rests has benefited from the improved weather and has had his training uninterrupted over the past seven days. Mike plans to breeze him this week. Overall, he continues doing well and is moving forward nicely."

"Mr. Fantasy continues to do very well in Florida for Mike Hushion. Mike reports that his color and coat are getting better every day. Mike has decided to wait another 1-2 weeks before breezing him because he wants to get a few more stiff gallops into him and make sure he is fit enough before pressing on with speed work. Click here to see video of Mr. Fantasy training at Palm Meadows"
"Phosphorescent is scheduled to breeze on Thursday weather permitting. Dale said they expect him to return to the starting gate in February."
"The Defense Rests is training well for Mike Hushion. It has been difficult to maintain a constant training schedule with the unpredictable weather in New York, but the weather is set to improve this week. Mike reports that he is moving soundly and looks good."

Updates

"Mr. Fantasy is galloping daily at Palm Meadows and is moving very nicely according to Mike Hushion. He is scheduled to have his first easy breeze since returning to training this week."
"Phosphorescent worked four furlongs this morning in 49:20 at the Fair Grounds. The work was 11th of 35 at the distance. Dale's assistant, Tom Morgan was very happy with the work. Phosphorescent finished well and cooled out nicely after the work. The rider came back and said he had plenty of horse during the breeze. Tom would like to tighten his breeze schedule up a bit, but Phosphorescent tends to get body sore sometimes after he breezes. We will let the horse tell us as we continue on a regular breeze schedule."
"The Defense Rests had some minor filling in his ankle earlier this week. Mike said it looks like he just tweaked the ankle, as he was not lame. Mike gave him three days off, and the filling subsided. He has returned to regular training, and will be back on the worktab in short order."
