The Defense Rests arrived to Mike Hushion’s barn at Belmont on Monday morning. Upon arrival, he exhibited some abdominal discomfort (minor case of colic). Mike’s vet immediately came out and treated him with the anti inflammatory Banamine. He’s responded well to treatment, and is passing almost normal manure. He still has periodic periods of discomfort, and will need to be monitored for the next few days, but at this point this is not something that looks like it requires hospitalization or surgery. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes with his condition. Right now we are optimistic that he will be able to return to training within the next few days

UPDATE ... Mike called this morning and said The Defense Rests is about 95% healthy and is just about over his minor bout of colic. This is good news. Mike and his team will keep a close eye on him for the next few days, and if all looks well, he'll likely head to the track early next week.


Brave Monarch schooled in the gate on Tuesday morning at Palm Meadows and was very professional. “I have him down to breeze later this week”, said Graham Motion. “I’ll likely work him on the turf, but at some point I’ll work him over the dirt so that we can get him his gate card. We’ll talk races once I get a few more works into him here at Palm Meadows.”
Phosphorescent had an uneventful week of turnout at Dr. Baker’s farm and remains on schedule to ship to Kip Elser’s farm in Camden, South Carolina on or around March 1st to resume light training.
