Mr Fantasy

We have decided to pass next week's Preakness and instead point for the $600,000 Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap run at a mile on May 25th at Belmont.
The Met Mile has been good for three-year-olds in the past, and it is one of the most prestigious races for Breeders. If the Met Mile comes up too difficult, then our backup race would be the Grade 2 Woody Stephens on Belmont Day.
We decided to pass the Preakness after seeing it would be a full field with what looks like a decent amount of speed in the race. We'd also be facing 125,000 fans and shipping for the first time. In the long run, that was not in the best interest of the horse. Kiaran also felt we could always possibly bounce off the Withers, so the extra ten days reduces that possibility.
We know we have one of the most talented three-year-olds, and the Met Mile will give him the chance to showcase that in one of the most prestigious races in the sport.

  1. I just listened to Terry Finley's youtube update on the decison for Mr. Fantasy. Not sure I understand the weight issue with Migliore in the Met Mile...they would have to give up a two or three pound advantage if going with Migliore? I really think Migliore is a great match for Mr. Fantasy so hope he gets the ride.

  3. The Met Mile is a handicap. Since Mr. Fantasy is a three year old he will get a very low weight assignment in the race. Mig will not be able to trim down to ride at that weight. So if the connections want to take full advantage of a 111 or 112 lb assignment they have to find a different jockey.

Great move waiting for the Met Mile. This colt has been managed masterfully.

  4. Power Cap welcome to the blog and thank you for your comments .I feel like you mig will not make the weight so have to find another Jockey it could be Garcia but after his ride in Gotham some may not be pleased to see him ontop again . I know there was a lot of pressure to run in one of the triple crown races but i feel this is best way to go he is young upstarty and his best distance should be a mile

  5. I like Mig on the horse too but Alan fits this horse well also. The Gotham meltdown was not his fault. Mr Fantasy was just too hot and I want revenge too good that day.
