Dr. Brandon ultrasounded and there is a small tear in the tendon. “The hole is in a different part of the tendon that his original injury,” says Kip. “It’s a shame because he was training so well. Dr. Brandon is going to consult with his colleagues and come up with a treatment plan, but this horse is probably going to need 90 days out of training.”

Pleasanty Fit

Pleasanlty Fit started out 2013 with a 2nd place finish

Update

Sky Afleet continues training with great energy. “Terry and I talked about this horse and agreed to get a few more works under him on the farm before heading back to Tom. He was getting a little too keen working in company, so I’m going to work him a time or two by himself. He’s so eager that he wants to go a little faster than I want him to at this stage. With another couple works under his belt, I’ll be more comfortable having him go a little faster like he wants to do.”

Update

Sky Afleet had a steady three furlong breeze over the weekend and is scheduled to breeze an easy half mile within the next few days. “He’s making solid progress,” said Kip. “The time off has really helped him. He’s filled out and much more mature than he was last year.” We’ll be down in Camden within the next month to shoot some video of him.

Terry and Tom Albertrani conferred and agreed to ship Sky Afleet to Palm Meadows in Boynton Beach, Florida once he has a few more breezes under his belt on the farm. If all goes well, he could debut before the Gulfstream meet concludes in April.

Sky Afleet breezed a steady three eighths in company in 39 and change over the weekend in Camden. “He has a lot of foundation underneath him,” so he’ll be ready to work a half mile with another three eighths under his belt. We’ll get a few works under belt on the farm before he heads back to Tom (Albertrani).”

Update

Sky Afleet had a “two minute lick,” or strong mile gallop in about two minutes at just south of breezing pace earlier this week at Kirkwood. “He’s relaxed a great deal since we gelded him, but he’s still pretty darn aggressive and that’s a good thing,” says Kip. “He’s a big, strong horse who is very active. I expect he’ll be ready to ship back to Tom in February.”
