Sky Afleet had a routine week of handwalking on the farm. “Dr. Whitwer is very happy with how the tendon looks and feels,” says Kip. “However, after thinking about it he wants to ultrasound it in about two weeks before we start jogging. He wants to be sure the fibers are ready to be stressed in an exercise program. This horse feels good and is eager to get back into training.”
Marketfrontrunning had two timed recorded breezes going 4F on the dirt in 50:60 and 5f on the turf in 1:03:00

Sky Afleet had his second round of PRP therapy on his tendon. He’s due to start a light jogging routine in a couple weeks. Per the last update, he’s on target to resume full training this summer.
It’s important for a horse to remain in a light exercise program when recovering from a soft tissue injury to keep their blood flowing. It’s important for there to be bloodflow to the limbs to promote healing and alignment of the tendon fibers.

Sky Afleet had some thickening in his left front tendon earlier in the week. Dr. Brandon ultrasounded and there is a small tear in the tendon. “The hole is in a different part of the tendon that his original injury,” says Kip. “It’s a shame because he was training so well. Dr. Brandon is going to consult with his colleagues and come up with a treatment plan, but this horse is probably going to need 90 days out of training.”

Update
Sky Afleet continues training with great energy. “Terry and I talked about this horse and agreed to get a few more works under him on the farm before heading back to Tom. He was getting a little too keen working in company, so I’m going to work him a time or two by himself. He’s so eager that he wants to go a little faster than I want him to at this stage. With another couple works under his belt, I’ll be more comfortable having him go a little faster like he wants to do.”

Update
Sky Afleet had a steady three furlong breeze over the weekend and is scheduled to breeze an easy half mile within the next few days. “He’s making solid progress,” said Kip. “The time off has really helped him. He’s filled out and much more mature than he was last year.” We’ll be down in Camden within the next month to shoot some video of him.
Terry and Tom Albertrani conferred and agreed to ship Sky Afleet to Palm Meadows in Boynton Beach, Florida once he has a few more breezes under his belt on the farm. If all goes well, he could debut before the Gulfstream meet concludes in April.

Update
Sky Afleet had a “two minute lick,” or strong mile gallop in about two minutes at just south of breezing pace earlier this week at Kirkwood. “He’s relaxed a great deal since we gelded him, but he’s still pretty darn aggressive and that’s a good thing,” says Kip. “He’s a big, strong horse who is very active. I expect he’ll be ready to ship back to Tom in February.”

Update
Sky Afleet is down to breeze early next week in company with Let the Cat Out in Camden. “I know I keep saying he’s close to a breeze, but he gets so much out his gallops. I’ve been sending him out for long, in hand gallops, and he’s thriving. He’s really settled down and relaxed since the gelding.”
